This assignment was one of our more interesting gigs; we were commissioned to document in both photography and video the complete story of a Boeing 737-800 being repainted from start to finish by our long-standing client Akzo Nobel Aerospace Coatings in conjunction with aircraft coatings specialist Maas Aviation and also Ryanair.
We headed off with a serious amount of excess baggage to Maas Aviation's ultra-modern dedicated painting hangars in Kaunas, Lithuania to tackle the job. This sort of work takes a fair bit of planning, not only in terms of knowing what the actual process is and what to expect, but also in terms of protecting ourselves, our cameras, lenses and lighting from airborne paint. It really is a harsh working environment for delicate kit which adds to the complexity of the job. Having worked on a similar project previously in Tallin, Estonia, we hit the ground running. Photography and video took place over 10 days and nights in two hangars where work never stops, not even for us. The results that you see here are just a fraction of what we photographed and filmed. Editing of each video was specifically tailored to each client's needs, all done in-house.
